General Questions

The Cannabis Plant has two main variants; Marijuana, which most of us are familiar with and Hemp.  Both variants have a number of active compounds in them called Cannabinoids, CBD (non-psychoactive) and THC (psychoactive), being two of the most dominant.  The Industrial Hemp Plant primarily produces CBD (cannabidoil), the non-psychoactive element and cannot therefore get you high or result in you becoming addicted to it.

The CBD oils are extracted from the Hemp stalk and seeds using pressurised carbon dioxide (CO2) methods.  This is widely considered the safest and most effective system, it is the most expensive but results in the purest form of CBD Oil.

Cannabidiol or CBD is sourced from certain Industrial Hemp Plants that are cultivated to provide health benefits and not so-called “Highs”. It’s only quite recently that scientific research has fully discovered this nutritional supplement’s health benefits. Not only can CBD be used to support health and well being it is non-intoxicating, and non-addictive and therefore clinically shown to be safe and legal to use in a growing number of countries.

In November 2017 the World Health Organisation produced a report concluding that that “CBD is non-addictive in Humans, and exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential”.

And according to a recent article by WebMD, “CBD is well tolerated and safe for human consumption”.

It is widely reported that rheumatoid arthritis patients can experience severe pain and inflammation in the joints.  Medical researchers have recently come to conclude that CBD may have the ability to interact with the immune system and receptors in your brain.

CBD has the ability to attach itself to the CB2 receptor, which has been shown to have a positive medical effect on the immune system.

The 2017 NCBI study showed that clinically speaking CBD may be a reliable treatment for patients looking to try alternative medicines to help ease joint pain and inflammation.

There is still a lot of research ongoing as to the extent to which CBD may be able to help.

A recent study by NCBI on the use of Cannabidiol (CBD) (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21533029) showed a “statistically significant reduction of pain and stiffness, enhancement of relaxation, and an increase in somnolence and feeling of well-being”.

Another 2008 study named “Cannabinoids in the management of difficult to treat pain” states that “The future for Cannabinoid therapeutics appears very bright indeed”.

Cannabidiol is a natural product that can help with mild sedation and allow you to relax in stressful situations where otherwise you would be quite anxious.  It is always advised to consult with your doctor before changing any medication.

Questions about Pets

There has been a huge increase in research and trials of CBD for humans, originally trials were mostly on rats. The trials are still evolving for dogs and other animals. This means that we mainly look towards anecdotal evidence and results from human trials when it comes to CBD products for our pets. However, you know your fur babies more than anyone!  We have developed this product from our own experiences and from the love of our own dogs.

Throughout a dog’s life, they may suffer pain from injury or hereditary conditions.  Traditional pain medication can be quite tough on their digestive systems and it can become expensive so some dog owners like to turn to a natural product like CBD. Reducing your dog’s pain can greatly improve their quality of life. Oliver’s CBD dog biscuits not only taste great, but our Beef and Turmeric biscuits have Olive Oil and our Peanut Butter with Apple contains Coconut Oil, combined with the natural powerful anti-inflammatory effects of Turmeric and Glucosamine.

We do not recommend stopping your dog’s current medication, however, speak to your veterinary surgeon about introducing CBD into your dog’s treatment. Studies in humans have shown that CBD may help in reducing the frequency and severity of seizures, which are caused by erratic electrical activity in the brain.

Some dogs, particularly rescue dogs, can become anxious around loud noises or groups of people and other dogs or animals or even out walking alongside roads.  An increasing number of people are starting to look to CBD to assist with their nervous canine companions.  We have personally used this to help our rescue dog (Max-GSD Cross) become calm during stressful situations such as meeting other dogs and loud noises.  Cannabidiol is a natural product that may help dogs to be more relaxed in stressful situations where otherwise they would be quite anxious, such as transportation or fireworks.

CBD is believed to bind to appetite receptors in a the brain, this can help stimulate the appetite. This is very useful if you have a dog that refuses to eat due to an illness or as a side effect of other treatment, such as treatment for cancer. Ensuring your dog is at a healthy weight is a great way to combat illness and build their immune system to fight viruses and disease.

One of the most well researched benefits of Cannabidiol is its pain relieving and anti-inflammatory properties. Since both play a role in skin problems caused by allergies in dogs, it demonstrates that CBD oil may be helpful for your dog’s skin allergy symptoms.  At Oliver’s CBD, we combine Olive Oil in our Beef & Turmeric Dog Biscuits and Coconut Oil in our Peanut Butter Apple & Turmeric Dog Biscuits, all of which are natural relief in skin problems and can help in ensuring your pets coat is in its best condition.

We typically recommend you give your pet 0.25 mg (Regular Dose) to 0.5 mg (Strong Dose) of CBD per single lb of body weight.   If you have any more questions on CBD and Pets visit the links below:
